Dr Andriy Boyko

BMed FRACGP PGDipMSM ACSEP (Registrar)

Dr Andriy Boyko is an accredited registrar with the Australasian College of Sports and Exercise Medicine Physicians (ACSEP). He provides diagnosis and management for all sport-related medical and musculoskeletal complaints and is passionate about working with his local community. Dr Boyko welcomes all patients, from weekend warriors to elite athletes. A physiotherapy or GP referral is appreciated but not required.

Dr Boyko has experience in expedition medicine and providing medical care for elite athletes. He has worked with the Victorian Football League, A-League, NRL, Touch NSW and Gymnastics Australia. He also volunteers with local organisations, leading the medical team at the Port Macquarie Running Festival, providing medical care for the Port Macquarie Pirates rugby union club and patrolling with the Port Macquarie Surf Lifesaving Club. This year, as well as helping patients in Port Macquarie, he will be working in Newcastle with the Newcastle Knights and Dr Neil Halpin. 

Prior to specialising in sports medicine, Dr Boyko completed his Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practice. He also has a postgraduate diploma in musculoskeletal medicine. He has been involved in research in the fields of endurance sports performance and exercise in sedentary populations.

Dr Boyko lives in Port Macquarie with his wife and two children. Outside the practice, you’ll find him surfing, camping or getting involved with community sports.

Dr Rupert Snyman

BSc (Med) MBBS (Hons) FRACS (FAOrthoA) Conjoint Lecturer (UNSW)

Dr Snyman is an Orthopaedic Surgeon in Port Macquarie NSW.

He completed his undergraduate training at UNSW, based at Prince of Wales Hospital Clinical School in 2001.His resident years were at Tamworth Base Hospital in North Western NSW near his home town of Scone NSW.He gained broad experience in rural orthopaedic registrar appointments in 2005-6 and was accepted into the AOA national training scheme in 2007.

He worked with leading specialists in:

  • Trauma Care at John Hunter Hospital.

  • Joint Replacement at Royal Newcastle Hospital.

  • Hand Surgery and Shoulder Surgery at Prince of Wales Hospital.

  • He gained a wealth of knowledge from surgeons in Port Macquarie, Tamworth, Maitland and Coffs Harbour.

He obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in 2011 and commenced as a Orthopaedic VMO in Tamworth shortly afterwards. After gaining broad experience in 2 years on a 1:3 on call roster in Tamworth he moved to Port Macquarie to join Dr Bill Cumberland. He has taken over Dr Cumberland’s practice after he retired in 2015.

Dr Snyman regularly attends cadaver labs and advanced skills courses. He also visits experts in the field to ensure his techniques and non-surgical options remain up to date.

His practice is almost exclusively hip and knee replacement as well as sports knee surgery such as ACL reconstruction. He is currently the Head of Department in Orthopaedics commencing in July 2018.

 

Dr Tom Longworth

MB, FACSEP, PGDipSEM (Bath)

Dr Tom Longworth became a Fellow of the Australasian College of Sports and Exercise Physicians in 2021 after five years of specialist training. He completed his medical degree with the University of Newcastle in 2010 and has had 5 years of experience in emergency and intensive care medicine across Australia since graduating. He has gained a post graduate Diploma in Sports Medicine from the University of Bath in 2018. Tom was awarded the ACSEP college medal for his performance in the Fellowship exams in 2020.

Tom has a wide variety of experience working with elite sports and athletes. He is currently Chief Medical Officer at The Sydney Roosters Rugby League Club and Head Doctor of the World Champion Jillaroos (Australian Women’s Rugby League Team). Prior sports coverage includes the Sydney 7s rugby union, Australian school boy rugby union, Bledisloe Cup, A-League soccer and National Rowing regattas, as well as voluntary work abroad with the Surfing Doctors’ Association. 

Tom has an interest in a wide variety of sport and exercise related medical disorders and acute injuries. He has experience in the use of extracorporeal shockwave therapy, ultrasound guided cortisone injections and platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections.
